LIQUID HELIUM PLANTS

Cryomech, Inc. now manufactures a group of Liquid Helium Plants. The Plants allow the user to liquefy helium from any room temperature helium source.   They are ideal for laboratories to manage their own liquid helium consumption and conservation.  Facilities with several cryostats with different boil off rates can use one Liquid Helium Plant, adding the difference between the liquefaction rate and the boil off rates with helium from a cylinder.   

The LHeP12 and LHeP18 use our 4K Pulse Tube Cryocoolers to liquefy helium inside a production dewar.  The unique properties of the Pulse Tube Cryocoolers provide for high production rates and low input power, unmatched by the competition.  Also, the long mean time between maintenance of the Pulse Tube Cryocoolers dramatically cuts the cost of operation.

 Another unique feature of the LHeP Series Liquid Helium Plants

is their ability to remove impurities from the gaseous helium as it flows into the dewar.   The impurities solidify onto the surface of the Pulse Tube Cryocooler; each impurity is trapped relative to its solid temperature along the thermal gradient of the Pulse Tube Cryocooler.  

The Liquid Helium Plants are designed to operate continuously if required. An RS232 computer interface allows for integration into a laboratory control network.  An automatic liquid level indicator will shut the plant down when the dewar is full.  The system design allows for automatic restart to prevent boil off or when the liquid level in the dewar drops to user specified levels.   

To decrease transfer losses, Liquid Helium Plant is mounted on a cart allowing the plant to be wheeled to the cryostat when filling is necessary.
